While talks of a potential agreement were ongoing between the government and business leaders, indicating a potential improvement in the relationship between the two, this optimism was shattered when Al Shabaab launched a violent attack by burning down markets in Elasha Biyaha, located on the outskirts of Mogadishu.
This ruthless act orchestrated by Al Shabaab not only resulted in significant destruction to the local businesses in Elasha Biyaha but also sent shockwaves throughout the entire Mogadishu business community.
Beyond the physical damage inflicted, the incident served as a chilling reminder of the persistent danger and looming threat posed by the militant group.

In this ominous communication dated Sunday, August 25, 2024, Sheikh Ali Dhere issued a stark warning to businesses and banks, cautioning them against collaborating with what he referred to as the “heretic government.”
This brazen move by Al Shabaab effectively cornered the Mogadishu businessmen, placing them in an impossible position where they could neither afford to disobey the government nor ignore the ominous threats of the extremist group.
Consequently, the business community in Mogadishu now finds itself caught in a precarious and unenviable situation, with mounting pressure coming from both the federal government and Al Shabaab.
